Meet Dr. Conor Reidy FRHistS
A specialist in Irish penal and criminal history, Dr. Reidy holds a BA in History, Political Studies, and Sociology from NUI Galway, as well as a Higher Diploma in Education from UCD. He completed an MA in History at the University of Limerick, where he also earned his PhD in 2007. In 2024, he was elected a Fellow of the Royal Historical Society.
Committed to professional excellence, Dr. Reidy has pursued accredited training through the Society of Indexers (UK) and the Society for Editors and Proofreaders (now the Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading, UK). As a Full Member of the Association of Freelance Editors, Proofreaders, and Indexers (Ireland), he stays current with industry standards through ongoing Continuing Professional Development.
A Career in Research, Writing, and Teaching
Dr. Reidy has held academic positions at the University of Limerick, Mary Immaculate College, and Dublin City University, lecturing on topics including modern Irish and European history, Australian history, and the history of education. He also served as a Historical Researcher for the Commission of Investigation into Mother and Baby Homes in Ireland, contributing to critical national inquiries.
Between 2013 and 2016, he was Secretary of the Womenโs History Association of Ireland, and he continues to engage with historical scholarship through his publications and media contributions.

He has contributed chapters to edited volumes on gender history and has written for publications including History Ireland, Irelandโs Own, and TheJournal.ie. His insights have been featured on RTE Radio One, Newstalk, Tipp FM, Clare FM, and TG4.
